And the Lord said to Moses: Stretch out thy hand towards heaven: and may there be darkness upon the land of Egypt, so thick that it may be felt.
And Moses stretch forth his hand towards heaven: and there came horrible darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days.
No man saw his brother, nor moved himself out of the place where he was: but wheresoever the children of Israel dwelt there was light.
And Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron, and said to them: Go sacrifice to the Lord: let your sheep only, and herds remain; let your children go with you.
Moses said: Thou shalt give us also sacrifices and burnt offerings, to the Lord our God.
And that was a day of darkness and danger, of tribulation and distress, and great fear upon the earth.
Let that day be turned into darkness, let not God regard it from above, and let not the light shine upon it.
Let darkness, and the shadow of death cover it, let a mist overspread it, and let it be wrapped up in bitterness.
They shall meet with darkness in the day, and grope at noonday as in the night.
A land of misery and darkness, where the shadow of death, and no order, but everlasting horror dwelleth.
They have been rebellious to the light, they have not known his ways, neither have they returned by his paths.
If the morning suddenly appear, it is to them the shadow of death: and they walk in darkness as if it were in light.
But they were struck with blindness: as those others were at the doors of the just man, when they were covered with sudden darkness, and every one sought the passage of his own door.
And they shall make a noise against them that day, like the roaring of the sea; we shall look towards the land, and behold darkness of tribulation, and the light is darkened with the mist thereof.
And they shall look to the earth, and behold trouble and darkness, weakness and distress, and a mist following them, and they cannot fly away from their distress.
Go, my people, enter into thy chambers, shut thy doors upon thee, hide thyself a little for a moment, until the indignation pass away. For behold the Lord will come out of his place, to visit the iniquity of the inhabitant of the earth against him: and the earth shall disclose her blood, and shall cover her slain no more.
I form the light, and create darkness, I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord that do all these things.
For behold darkness shall cover the earth, and a mist the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.
Give ye glory to the Lord your God, before it be dark, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains: you shall look for light, and he will turn it into the shadow of death, and into darkness.
The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood: before the great and dreadful day of the Lord doth come.
Shall not the day of the Lord be darkness, and not light: and obscurity, and no brightness in it?
But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into the exterior darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun shall be darkened and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of heaven shall be moved: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: And then shall all tribes of the earth mourn...and He shall send His angels with a great voice: and they shall gather together his elect.
And this is the judgment: because the light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than the light: for their works were evil.
I am come a light into the world; that whosoever believeth in me, may not remain in darkness.
The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and manifest day of the Lord come.
Acts Of Apostles 2:20
And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom became dark, and they gnawed their tongues for pain: and they blasphemed the God of heaven, because of their pains and wounds, and did not penance for their works.
For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and power, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places.
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of the Son of His Love, in Whom we have redemption through His blood, the remission of sins; Who is the Image of the invisible God, the Firstborn of every creature: For in Him were all things created in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominations, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him and in Him.
